Hair Transplantation
Hair Transplantation, FUE and FUT Methods
Transplantation of live hair follicles made from one's own hair is the safest method. The most resistant area against hair loss is the nape and temporal area, so live hair follicles are taken from this area.
For this reason, hair follicles which are taken from the nape and transplanted to the front area are permanent (except for trauma, burn and some skin diseases).
In the modern sense, hair transplantation and transplantation procedures are performed as follicular units by FUT and FUE methods.
In FUT method, a scalp band is taken from the nape and live hair follicles are extracted individually from this stripe. The wound on the neck is covered with suture and it is concealed in an invisible way.
In FUE method, live follicular units are taken one by one from the nape area. Since hair follicles are taken scattered, no scar is visible on the nape. In both methods, transplantation way is the same; small canals are opened in the transplant area and these follicles are transplanted one by one.
A follicular unit may contain 1,2 or 3 live roots. For example, if 1500 follicular units (grafts) were transplanted, it is understood that an average of 3000 hair fibres were transplanted, as some of them contained 2 and 3 roots. Each transplanted part is called a graft. 1 graft contains 1 follicular unit.
In summary, the single and effective treatment of hair loss made by micrograft method (FUE technique) is hair transplantation. This method is completely made naturally with one's own hair.
FUE Method
FUE method, which is the most valid method in hair transplantation today, is not an operation. Blade and seam are not used. In this method, follicular units are taken one by one - shortening the hair in the pair- with very fine needles (0.6-0.7-0.8 mm). Channels are then prepared in the area to be planted and follicular units are planted individually. Mild crusting and swelling might occur after hair transplantation is completed. There will be no scar in the nape area.
The Period After Hair Transplantation
Patients can wash their hair from the 3rd-4th day after hair transplant, the person can return to normal life within a week. In the first month, 60-70% of physiological shedding may occur. Some of the live hair follicles can shed.
Since hair transplantation is a natural method, it takes about 3-6 months for hair growth to happen, but it continues to grow for a lifetime. Planted hair does not require a special care in the following period.
What Should be Considered When Deciding Hair Transplantation?
When deciding on a hair transplantation, it is best to start by talking to a specialist. If this is not possible, it is helpful to start the preliminary examination by sending detailed photographs. So you can find out which type of hair loss you have, and whether you are suitable for hair transplantation.
First of all, it is necessary to know which type of hair loss you suffer from. You can find out which group you belong to according to the Norwood classification. According to this, it can be decided how many grafts are needed to be transplanted. Transplantations up to 4000-4500 grafts can be completed in 1 day.
It is helpful if there is “Hair Washing and Care Unit” in the clinic for hair washing and care to be made after hair transplantation.
Hair transplantation in our country is still under the responsibility of aesthetic and plastic surgery specialists and can be done in the hospital environment.
